Zocdoc is a New York-based online booking company that provides patients with the option of booking empty slots in doctors’ schedules using their mobile devices. This isn’t the company’s first major raise. Zocdoc was first founded in 2007, which as digital health companies go makes it a veteran in the space. It’s not necessarily good for customer loyalty: participating doctors agree to let patients rate them on the site, an approach many non-ZocDoc physicians have resisted. This morning Zocdoc, a health tech company best known for its appointment-booking and doctor-search tool, announced a whopping 150 million raise, led by Francisco Partners. For doctors, joining the site - for a monthly fee of $300 - is a relatively low-cost way to bring in new business and fill last-minute vacancies. Searches can target doctors on the basis of specialty, insurance accepted and even available time slots (one reason most ZocDoc appointments are made a day or two in advance, as opposed to the national average of 20 days).
